languages classroom including language awareness, intercultural awareness, and integration of ICT, all of
which use a task based approach, have been developed.
A conference hosted in collaboration with Maynooth University on the use of Digital Tools in the context of the
Digital Learning Framework was followed by the production of a series of tutorials which are based on the
tools that support the four domains of the Digital Learning Framework now available on our website. Models
of good practice have been disseminated via the creation of videos e.g. exemplars of work being done on
school exchanges, using language assistants, and establishment of links between post-primary and primary.
We have worked in partnership with stakeholders to offer relevant expertise and support for foreign languages
education at post-primary level in Ireland. e.g. we are a member of the Foreign Languages Advisory Group
(FLAG) in the DES; we have liaised with third level language departments to promote quality teaching that
prepares their graduates for teaching in 2nd level context; we have offered language teacher subject
associations access to relevant information and expertise; facilitated the delivery of a workshop by the
European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) for key stakeholders - RELANG relating tests and examinations
to the CEFR; provided resources to Scoilnet in PDST Technology in Education; acted to facilitate relevant
embassies and government agencies in their support for languages education in schools; presented at
conferences and events; and provided input in many other areas.
