Diversication of the range of languages on offer in TY:
modules for new and existing curricular languages (2.C.1, 2.E.10)
Action Progress
Polish and Lithuanian
TY modules in Polish as an MFL were developed and introduced in the academic year 2018-2019 in six
schools and they have been received well by schools and students. These modules contribute to fostering an
appreciation for the language and culture of the Polish community in schools and promote integration and
intercultural awareness. In the academic year 2019-2020 these modules were adapted for Lithuanian and a
school in Co. Monaghan introduced Lithuanian in TY.
In addition, PPLI developed a set of modules in existing curricular languages, German, Italian and Spanish to
support teachers and schools wishing to introduce these languages in their TY programmes.
