2.C.2 Summer Camps action
Action progress
A call was put out for applications by potential providers of heritage language summer camps in Polish,
Lithuanian, Latvian and Romanian in spring, and six applications were received. Applicants were screened on
the basis of a number of criteria which included educational outcomes, Value for Money, and proposed
programme.
Three summer camps were selected, a Romanian one in Dublin, a Polish one in Tipperary and a second
Romanian one in Cork. The two-week summer camps were funded by PPLI but facilitated by the coordinators.
There were approximately 20 students in each of the summer camps, and students experienced a very wide
range of activities, including sports, arts and crafts, culture and music, and field trips.
Impact
Each of the three camps were visited by PPLI staff, and it was clear from the visits that both the teachers and
the students were very engaged. There is a video clip on the summer camps at:
