Next Steps
•
Build on the momentum achieved to bring foreign languages to life for students, and help them
understand the many benefits of foreign language skills.
•
Combine owned, earned and paid media channels to communicate with the many target audiences.
•
Continue to develop and update the Languages Connect website, YouTube channel and social media
channels with new and interesting content.
•
The growing following and engagement on social media provide an effective platform to communicate
with a wider audience – a continuous programme of engaging posts, videos, competitions and games are
planned throughout the year to engage secondary students and remind them of the many benefits that
foreign language skills will bring to their lives.
•
Nurture and expand the new team of student ambassadors who can share their recent language learning
experiences at events, on social media and through traditional media.
•
Support the promotion of foreign language learning at Third Level: Through ongoing and continued
partnership with Careers Portal and our Language course database we will help promote third level
language learning across all of our channels. We are continuously growing relationships with Third Level
language departments, supporting them to promote what they are doing through grants and exhibition
space at #ThinkLanguages. Through this mutual support, further awareness raising projects will be
developed as the year progresses.
•
Continue to promote the importance of exchanges for language learning by financially supporting
schools and building awareness of the social, cultural and personal benefits of exchanges to post-primary
students.
•
Encourage students to appreciate the importance of their home languages – through Summer Camp
support, promoting online support for Leaving Cert languages and social media awareness raising
campaigns.
•
Build on the success of #ThinkLanguages 2020 bringing together students and teachers with enterprise,
third level, cultural institutes and embassy stakeholders to celebrate and promote the benefits of foreign
language skills.
•
Exhibit at a large number of events for students, teachers, guidance counsellors, TY coordinators,
principals and many others to promote Languages Connect messages, engage and listen to our many
audiences and build our networks across the country.
•
Building on the success of 2019, grow the network of enterprise stakeholders involved in
#ThinkLanguages 2020.
•
Continue to promote the value of foreign language skills in the workplace across all Languages Connect
channels as well as supporting initiatives to encourage TY students to use and develop their foreign
language skills through work experience.
•
With the help of the FLAG Enterprise sub-group, build our network of enterprise stakeholders in order to
help promote language skills more widely.
