This facility supports the messaging of Languages Connect for students choosing courses in college which is
that having a foreign language in addition to their chosen subject will provide competitive advantage in a
competitive global jobs market.
Supporting School Leaders
Special effort was made in 2019 to engage with school
principals, deputy principals and TY co-ordinators. As
per action 3.A.1 the importance of foreign languages –
both for cultural and social awareness and for career
opportunities, based on languages themselves or in
combination with other disciplines was highlighted by
hosting stands and offering merchandise with
Languages Connect messaging at the major
conferences including NAPD, JMB, ACCS, PDA Ireland,
TYTPN, in addition to numerous meetings with school
leaders in their schools. A workshop was also provided
at NAPD and a presentation at the JCT Symposium
Exploring Short Courses.
A particular focus in 2019 was on how the provision of
foreign languages, and the support of home languages
in particular support well-being.
These conferences were also used as an opportunity to
share information on opportunities for enhancing,
supporting and diversifying the curriculum, as well as
to provide valuable information on supports available
for schools.
