Enlisting the support of embassies, cultural services and bodies such as IBEC,
Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland in raising awareness (3.A.2.)
PPLI continue to liaise closely with embassies and cultural services.
In the Spring, our annual competition for 5th year students of Spanish was facilitated in collaboration with
the Consejería de Educación de la Embajada de España in Dublin. The competition was sponsored by La
Junta de Castilla y León and the Spanish Tourist Office in Dublin. In 2019 students were asked to create a 2minute video taking place in Castilla y León. The video had In collaboration with the Consejería de Educación

sponsoring the competition. For 2019 students were asked to Create a 2-minute video taking place in Castilla
y León. The video had to incorporate an artefact from Irish daily life, such as a hurley, a kettle, or a potato
masher, etc., anything not widely used in Spain. The theme of the competition was chosen to encourage
students to consider and develop cultural and intercultural awareness and perspectives.
The 1st prize included 3 scholarships to cover the cost of flights, accommodation and language school for a
week in Castilla y León for 2 students and their teacher.
2nd and 3rd prizes included 3 scholarships each to cover the cost of a one-week language course and
accommodation for 2 students and their teachers.
The award ceremony took place in the Spanish Ambassador's Residence and was attended by the students,
parents and teachers.
