Employer Engagement 4.A.1
Action Progress
PPLI developed Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Applied/Vocational Programme ‘Working with
languages’ work experience activity packs to introduce languages as part of work experience. The packs
include work-related activities using the target language, and also language awareness and skills-related
activities in English. The activities can be used in any workplace and in any language or can be used for
classroom-based work. The packs began to be piloted by interested MFL Teachers, Guidance Counsellors and
TY co-ordinators during 2019.

Guidelines for employers and schools which support the formation of partnerships involving language skills
were also developed. The aim is to encourage the involvement of employers in work experience and to bring
the world of work with language skills into the school. The guidelines also encourage the school to approach
an employer and involve students in real-life local workplaces where the benefits of having language skills
are recognised.
