The School Library Home Languages Scheme
continued for the second year to offer primary
and post-primary schools funding to acquire
home language materials for use by their
students. Of the applicants 379 schools were

eligible for funding in 2020. Books in a wide range of languages, dual language books, comics, magazines,
games, cards, digital resources, and other materials were acquired for students. EAL students were specifically
targeted with the view of supporting home language literacy skills.
Collaboration with JCSP Demonstration Library Project: Digital Library Foreign Language Book
Collection and DEAR
Languages Connect collaborated with JCSP Demonstration Library Project by funding the acquisition of
nearly 500 new foreign language ebooks and audiobooks in various languages for the JCSP Digital Library. In
2020 the collection has about 630 books in 25 languages, more titles and languages will be added. The initial
borrowing statistics have shown a strong borrowing rate already with foreign language books out on loan
continuously.
Languages Connect participated in the JCSP Libraries Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) annual reading day
in April by promoting the reading of foreign language books.
