• Most schools offer Transition Year.
• English-medium schools: Of those that do not offer it, 62% are new schools.
• Irish-medium schools: Only two schools do not offer it, and one of those is considering it.

Question 14 asked whether schools provided a Transition Year programme and a reason for non-provision was
requested in Question 15. 92% of schools surveyed have a transition year, however some schools offer it as an
optional year. Some of the reasons mentioned for not having it were lack of interest and accommodation. “Scoil
beag cónaithe is ea í agus nuair a cuireadh ceist ar tuismitheoirí cúpla bliain ó shin ní raibh a ndóthain suim ann é a chur
ar fail” (It is a small boarding school and when parents were asked about providing it a few years ago, they did not
have enough interest in doing so) was another comment.
