PPLI Audit of Foreign Languages - Flipbook - Page 45
• Na teangacha is mó fáis agus is úsáidí (The most useful and fastest growing languages)
• Tugann teanga léargas ar chultúir éagsúla agus dearcaidh éagsúla. Eispéiris a bheadh ann. Id náire an rud é go
bhfuil deireadh a chur leis an scrúdú cainte ag leibhéal na sraithe sóisialaí; caillfear cumarsáid le daoine eile,
cultúir eile srl (Languages provide an insight into various cultures and outlooks. It would be an experience. It is
a shame that the oral examination is being brought to an end for the junior cycle; communication with others
and culture will be lost etc.)
• Ba bhreá liom an tSínis a chur ar an gclár de bharr an dul chun cinn agus an tiochar atá ag an Sín ar an domhain
uilig na laethanta seo. (I would love to put Chinese on the programme because of China's progress and impact
on the world nowadays.)
• Éagsúil ón soláthar teangacha faoi láthair. Bhí Seapáinis againn san Idirbhliain agus don Ardteist faoin Languages
Initiative ach ní raibh an t-éileamh mór go leor le leanúint leis. (Different from the languages currently available.
Japanese was available in transition year and for the Leaving Certificate under the Languages Initiative but the
demand was not high enough to continue with it.)
Comments that reflect a belief that teachers of other subjects can be prepared to teach Chinese by
participating in casual part-time classes provided by the Confucius Institutes
• Teachers already receiving CPD in these subjects
• The teacher has an interest in Chinese and has some basic modules done.
• The school has teachers training to teach Chinese.
• Múinteoir i mbun cúrsa oíche faoi láthair, modúil ar fáil d'Idirbhliain 2017-2018 (A teacher is undertaking a night
course currently, module available for transition year 2017-2018)
