The comments focus on demand for German, it is seen as advantageous for the school to offer a wider range
of languages, a useful language for trade, and for third level study (very useful for an Erasmus placement). One
or two schools already have a German teacher or an existing link to a German speaking school.
• This year we have Spanish students here and we see a demand for Spanish. Some of our students do German out
of school but we do not have the resources to offer it as a subject.
• world wide appeal
• It's a European language with good commerce links, but I would consult with students, parents and teachers to
get their views first.
• To give students further opportunity for employment.
• We had to remove German from the curriculum 5 years ago due to low levels of uptake but interest is growing
in German again.
• Teacher teaching German module to 3 TY classes this year, may consider offering it to 1st years.
• I feel it is important to offer a second MFL in a school and to allow an option.
• To give a greater opportunity to those students with a flair for languages to flourish.
• Some student demand
• I (Principal) am a qualified German teacher and would like to teach and offer the subject on the curriculum.
• We have a link with a school in Salzburg, Austria and would like to introduce German to improve the
communication.
• Local demand
• Germany is the powerhouse of Europe and the country which many companies, would either like to or already
are doing business with.
• To give students the option of another foreign language other than French and also to match the curriculum
being offered in other schools locally.
• It would give greater choice to our students and would be benefit them when going on to third level study.
• Recent research is highlighting an increase in German as an employer request
• Local business connection. Was previously offered
• We have staff qualified in the language.
