Introduction
Chatterpix is a free app, available in the app store, that can make anything talk - pets, friends,
doodles, and more. It’s a useful way of getting your students to make and send oral presentations
in a fun and easy way. All they need to do is take a photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record
their voices.... that’s it!
This app is particularly attractive to Junior Cycle students who may be shy when making oral
presentations in class, or who may need some visual content to accompany their oral recordings.
It is also very practical when assessing oral work remotely.
The finished recordings are easy to share via email or on various platforms and can be a great form
of summative or formative assessment for both junior and senior students. The maximum amount
of time for each recording is 30 seconds. There is no subscription fee and recordings can’t exceed
the 30 seconds limit.
To get started:
Go to the App Store or to Play Store and download the free ChatterPix App. There is also a
Chatterpix Kids App. The differences between the two apps are:
Chatterkids has been designed for 13 years and under,
Chatterkids does not have the ability to share the finished product
socially, on Facebook orYouTube for example, but it does allow you
to save to the camera roll.
Chatterpix has the ability to socially share.
Once downloaded and installed, your students will have the choice
of taking a photo or using a photo from their gallery. If your
students are making a presentation on a book that they are currently
reading, or a film that they are watching, they can choose to ‘Take
Photo’. If you would like them to make a presentation on a topic such
as ‘my family’, they can choose photos representing their families
from their photo galleries on their phones.
