Creating a Video with PowerPoint - by Dominique Sénard
Introduction
There are many ways to create a video. This is just one of them. In this guide, you will learn how to
use the recording function in PowerPoint to record the narration from all the slidesand save the
result as a video that you can upload to YouTube, or share with your students. This will hopefully
give you more ideas on how to use this function to, for example, give students audio feedback,
record a lesson for a flipped classroom, explain a tricky point etc.
To get started:
Depending on the purpose of your video, you will use a different presentation. The recording
function will be the same.
In this guide, I am making a video to create a resource on TeachVid (which only uses YouTube
videos). I will not need to have my camera nor a preview switched on. (For a guide of how to
create a resource on TeachVid, click here).
There are only a few steps to create this kind of video:
-
write a text (transcript) you want the students to work on.
-
illustrate this text with pictures in PowerPoint.
-
record the audio.
-
save it as a video and publish it on YouTube.
1. Have the transcript ready. Open a PowerPoint and create a presentation to illustrate your
transcript. Here, my text is a about someone describing where they live. I have created several
slides with one or two images to illustrate each paragraph.
