Priory Academy
Sustainability
At Priory Academy, we aim to create thoughtful,
proactive and creative students that have a
desire to create a sustainable future for all.
We have taken a number of steps, at Priory
Academy, to become a more sustainable school
which include:
Achieving our Green Flag Eco Schools award in
July 2022
Installation of LED lighting and investment in
double glazing throughout the school in order to
reduce energy costs and be more energy
efficient
We have installed on demand mixer taps to save
water
Our recycling suppliers have been changed in
order to recycle more - including paper, food,
plastic and cardboard
An eco-committee was set up in September
2021 and they have been very proactive in
developing awareness of how to reduce, reuse
and recycle
The eco committee have attended a number of
sustainable events throughout the last 2 years
and have learnt a lot about how to actively
change their community9s future
Our Travel Development Plan encourages
students to walk to school, this is reinforced by
students participating in Bikeability during KS2.
Departments have worked really hard to reduce
their paper use by using iPads in lessons, for
example using Teams and OneNote to produce
work on
We aim to become single use plastic free school;
therefore, one initiative has been to provide all
students with a personalised reusable bottle and
for no single use plastic bottles to be on sale in
the canteen
The eco committee have encouraged staff and
students to be more aware of turning lights off
before they leave a classroom by placing small
posters next to each light switch
·During Fairtrade fortnight, we plan many learning
activities including quizzes, creating annual
climate pledges and we also hold a 8green/blue9
day to help raise money for the organisation of
Fairtrade
The eco committee have worked very hard to
create an eco-garden to increase biodiversity
around the school.
We partake in the Trust9s annual Sustainability
Conference where we attend workshops hosted
by Scientists, local organisations and University
lecturers
We have also worked very hard on developing
our curriculum to included the three aspects of
sustainability in all subject areas, being social,
economic and environmental.
The little steps we are taking will be built upon each
year resulting in having a huge impact on our local
community and the future knowledge of our citizens.
