Moving Up
Moving to a new school can be an exciting yet
challenging experience for some students. At
Priory Academy, we recognise the importance of
ensuring that every child feels welcomed,
supported, and included during transition.
To facilitate a smooth adjustment, we organise a
variety of activities and events aimed at making the
transition as comfortable as possible. One such
event is our transition day, where students spend a
day in our school before officially starting in
September. On this special day, students will have
the chance to meet their form tutor, who will be their
dedicated mentor during their first year at Priory
Academy. Our caring and experienced staff will be
on hand to welcome your child, answer any
questions they may have, and provide them with an
opportunity to familiarise themselves with our school
environment. By participating in the transition day,
your child will gain a sense of belonging and
familiarity, enabling them to feel more confident and
at ease when they officially join our school
community.
We also understand that some students may require
additional support during this transition. For these
students, we offer extra transition afternoons,
specifically designed to cater to their needs. These
additional sessions provide a supportive environment
where students can receive personalised attention
and guidance from our staff. We aim to ensure that
every student, regardless of their unique
circumstances, feels valued, understood, and fully
prepared for their new educational journey at Priory
Academy.
In addition to our focus on student well-being, we
recognise the vital role that parents play in their
child's educational journey. To help parents feel
informed and involved, we organise an induction
evening specifically tailored for parents. This event
offers an excellent opportunity for you to meet our
dedicated staff, including the head of year, who will
be actively involved in supporting your child's
progress. During the evening, we will provide you with
an overview of our school ethos, values, and
curriculum, as well as address any concerns or
questions you may have. We believe that by fostering
a strong partnership between school and parents, we
can create a supportive network that ensures the
success and well-being of our students.
We understand that a personal touch can make a
significant difference, especially for students who
may struggle during this transition. As part of our
commitment to individualised care, the head of year
will arrange visits to your child's school. These visits
enable the head of year to familiarise themselves with
your child's current learning environment, observe
their experiences, and gather important information
that will help us better understand and support their
needs. By doing so, we can tailor our approach to
provide the necessary support and guidance for a
successful transition to Priory Academy.
At Priory Academy, we strive to create an inclusive
and nurturing environment where all children can
flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. We
firmly believe that every child deserves a warm and
inviting welcome, ensuring a positive start to their
educational journey. We look forward to welcoming
you and your child to our Priory Academy family,
where we will work together to unlock their full
potential and create lifelong memories.
