Did you know that people
have individual pain
thresholds, and this may
mean that a laser procedure
conducted on a person who
finds it comfortable, may in
turn mean that it is
uncomfortable for another
person, even when
undertaking the exact same
laser procedure?
individuals experience pain
In recent times we have heard of and seen
evidence of horror stories where customers
have undergone laser procedures whilst being
submitted to what could only be described as
almost torture!
During a laser procedure a protocol should be
carried out that ensures that people who are
new to experiencing a laser treatment, be
given opportunity to give feedback to the laser
operator, this should only take a few minutes
and is a safety measure that should be taken
before the entire procedure takes place. The
reason for this is, that not only do individuals
experience pain and discomfort differently, but
they also may have different sensations based
on the degree of melanin in their skin, the time
of day the procedure is being done, the level of
stress they are carrying at that time, and even
their stage of menstrual cycle.
There is an expected pain tolerance
associated with certain laser procedures, such
as when a person is asked if they think laser
hair removal would be painful?, most will say
yes. However, when they experience a
professional laser operator conducting
thorough skin pre-cooling, and using correct
laser settings, they would agree that the
treatment was well tolerated and comfortable.
Imagine you are completely new to laser and
the laser technician doing the treatment
completes your treatment at speed, with little
care for skin cooling or your pain threshold,
you endure a treatment and feel uncomfortable
and distressed. It is unlikely you would say that
the treatment was not well tolerated, some
customers go through this experience regularly
and still go back for more treatments.
