Choosing a supplier
When I’m looking at suppliers I look at what their
core values are. I’m very passionate about caring
and improving natural nail health.
Gavin from Belush Lola Lee shares these core
values which is why he has been my main supplier
for over 10 years. Belush Lola Lee has beautiful
vegan products that are chemical free and work
amazingly well on all types of nails. All of my
clients adore Gavin's products.
Handling the day to day pressure
scenes of a
chnician
It is hard work juggling working with clients,
maintaining your salon space, keeping up with
stock orders, replying to messages coming in from
multiple media devices channels and also running
the financial side of the business. On top of all of
this you still need to fit in family and down time for
your mental health. Be as organised as you
possibly can be. Some days you feel like you are
going backwards. I try and keep positive and make
sure I take time out. I could easily work from dawn
until dusk, but you become unproductive, I have
learnt that lesson the hard way!
Worst complaint
I’ve heard many a chuckle worthy statement come
from clients over the years. The funniest one I had
was from someone unhappy that her nails kept
growing and couldn’t I do a better job at making
them not grow!
Keeping clients on board
Securing clients is essential to keep you in
business and is generally the hardest thing to get
going. I’ve found actually listening to my clients is
the best way to secure a re book. Be relaxed and
be yourself, people can usually tell when someone
is being fake! Listen to what they want to achieve
with their nails and then talk them through what
you think will work, tell them if what they want is
unrealistic. This honesty at the start of the
relationship will save you both disappointment.
Attracting new clients
For me, word of mouth is by far the best
advertisement I can get for new clients. I do
regular posts on different social media platforms
and I also sponsor different events in my local area
and collaborate with other businesses to run offers
and specials.
Most popular service
Express gel manicure, closely followed by the
maintenance gel pedicure are the most popular
items on my menu. The express manicure is great
for a busy people wanting to keep looking great
with minimal time. The maintenance pedicure is a
slightly longer service and people leave super
relaxed and walking on air.
Keeping up with trends
Industry magazines are invaluable for learning
about new products heading to our shores, and
reading about trends and events that are
happening. I also follow social media to keep up to
date with what is on trend for the moment. Talking
to your supplier is key too; they also have the
heads up as to what is coming our way so having a
great relationship with them helps enormously.
