Lavender essential oil can be used for many
ailments. It has been known to assist and relieve
insomnia, anxiety, headaches, migraines,
hypertension, muscle aches and pain, acne, minor
cuts, scratches, burns, insect bites, sunburn,
eczema, and shaving accidents. It can also be
used to calm anxious pets and reduce fleas.
Some clinical psychologists, aromatherapists,
physiotherapists and others in health and
wellbeing are well versed in using it for clients.
They see the importance of buying lavender
essential oils directly from New Zealand lavender
farms because they want to know the source, what
kind of lavender is grown, how it was processed
and distilled before using on clients.
Make sure to buy 100% natural and pure lavender
oil and check you like the fragrance. It does not
need to be organic, just an excellent quality
lavender oil.
As with other essential oils, lavender oil should be
kept in a dark, airtight bottle and preferably a
smaller bottle with a dripper. The optimum time to
keep lavender oil is two years; however quality
lavender essential oil can improve with age like a
good wine.
Lavender growing is labour intensive but extremely
rewarding. Any lavender grower will tell you that
the highlight of the lavender season is the day the
beautiful flower is harvested and distilled.
The fragrance that permeates through the
processing shed and farm is like nothing you can
imagine. At the end of a long day, you end up with
100% pure essential oil, 1% hydrosol (linen water)
which is the reward and like gold, and a good
night's sleep!
Trish Delamore, co-owner of Lavender Hill says;
"We are lucky enough to have beehives on our
farm. The resulting Lavender Honey can be used
as a first aid treatment for cuts and burns as it has
anti-microbial qualities that inhibits bacteria growth
and helps to keep wounds
clean and deters infection.
It also acts as an antiinflammatory to help reduce
swelling."
"Lavender honey is a
premium honey;
flowery, pleasant, well
balanced and rounded,
has a very fine honey
aroma and a delicate
floral scent with an
evident lavender
component. It has a
very persistent medium
sweet taste that grows
with the finish. In some
cases it has slightly
sour notes. In addition
to being delicious, the
honey is also excellent
for soothing sore
throats, dry coughs or
asthma problems.
Lavender Hill is a lifestyle property owned by Trish
and Jason Delamore, who are both passionate
about creating a sustainable lifestyle block,
providing fabulous accommodation in Auckland
and sharing their adventures with other like-minded
people. The lifestyle block is a combination of
lavender plants, olives, and lemon trees with a few
sheep and alpacas.
Accommodation is available for those staying in
the Kumeu, Riverhead area and Jason and Trish
are happy to share their adventures with others.
