WEST KENT NEWS | ISSUE NO.12 SPRING 2024
Principals - an offer I was
delighted to accept, particularly in
these exciting times, when Royal
Arch Masonry is recognised as
such an important and vital step
in our masonic journey.
ASSISTANT TO THE
PROVINCIAL GRAND
PRINCIPALS: 2024
ROBERT JAMES GAYWOOD
I
was
first
introduced
to
Freemasonry in the early 1980s
by my father James, when he
invited me to attend his Lodge
Ladies Night in the City of
London.
I am of course under no illusion
that there is a lot of hard work
ahead and relish the opportunity
and challenge of working closely
with
the
Executive,
Visiting
Officers, and Group 2 Chapters,
to make my own contribution to
the continuance and development
of a successful and thriving Royal
Arch in West Kent.
I very much look forward to
seeing you all at the West Kent
Provincial
Royal
Arch
Convocation at Oakley House on
Friday 12th July.
Over the years, I have served as
a Visiting Officer and Senior
Visiting Officer in London and
more recently, a Visiting Officer
both in Craft and Royal Arch in
West Kent.
In December 2023, I was
extremely honored by the MEGS
to be offered the office of
Assistant to the Provincial Grand
of Hermes Chapter 77, one of the
oldest in our Province; we
celebrated the 225th anniversary
last October.
To be honest in 1998 I was not
aware of the various areas in
Freemasonry;
however,
since
then, I have also become a
member of 5 Craft Lodges and 5
Royal Arch Chapters – I am an
active officer in all. I must say
that this has only been possible
due to the full support of my wife.
My
understanding
of
our
organisation is to help each other
to achieve their goals and
potential which is what I have
had. I enjoy this very much. It is
my belief that if you engage with
the Lodge and Chapter members
your journey is fruitful and
enjoyable.
I am looking forward to meeting
as many of the members of the
Province of West Kent in my
tenure and working closely with
the Executive of the Craft and
Royal Arch to achieve the
common goal.
I hope to see many of you at the
Provincial Lodge meeting on
Friday 14th June and Provincial
Chapter on Friday 12th July.
That whetted my appetite and in
1988, I was initiated into a West
Kent Lodge.
I am a member of eight Lodges,
five in West Kent and three in
London, being Secretary of two,
Master of one and holding
various offices in a further three.
I was Exalted into Westwood
Chapter No. 8046, Welling in
1990, later joining the Chapter of
Regularity No. 91 and Regent’s
Park Meridian Chapter No. 9202.
At one stage I was Scribe E of all
three, but only two now.

Brethren it is a great honor that I
