ISSUE NO.12 SPRING 2024 | WEST KENT NEWS 19
ASSISTANT PROVINCIAL
GRAND MASTER:
PETER BROOKER
As I now enter my third year as an
APGM, the past couple of years have
been a steep learning curve for me. I
have made visits to all forty six of the
Lodges in Group 3, witnessed the
wonderful work of many of our
outstanding Lodges and met some
amazing people who have become
friends for life.
There
are
of
course
Lodges
struggling with the challenges of
Recruitment and Retention but who
have members resolutely determined
to overcome these issues. Other
Lodges have lost their way and
become detached from all the good
things going on in our Province.

What makes a successful Lodge?
Well the answer is simple: good
administration and good ritual. If
you have these two elements in
your Lodge, you are onto a winner!
I have always believed a Lodge
should be run for the benefit of its
members and with the more
experienced members having a
responsibility
to
encourage
everyone to voice their opinions and
play an active role in the
governance and future direction of
the Lodge. Like many, I love
tradition, but evolution is the key to
keeping a Lodge vibrant, interesting
and somewhere members would
want to invite their friends to join.
The biggest threat to our organisation is
resignations and failing to engage with
all existing members will inevitably lead
to the demise of any Lodge.
Spring is a time to look forward and
make plans – is your Lodge living in the
21st century and ready to grow and
flourish in the future?
If any Lodge or member in Group 3
would like to discuss any of the issues
raised above, please do not hesitate to
contact me – I am here to help.
