DAVID NEWBY CYCLES
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION -
WEST KENT PROVINCIAL
FOR THE ROYAL BRITISH
APPRECIATION AWARD
GRAND STEWARDS9
LEGION
WINNER
LODGE - GARDEN PARTY
For the last 18 years David Newby
of Welling Lodge, has undertaken
the Pedal to Paris cycle ride to raise
funds for the Royal British Legion
(RBL). This year, for the third time,
he was also joined by his son,
Leigh. Leaving London on 31st
August, they arrived in Paris on the
4th September.
Following another successful Poppy
appeal the Sidcup branch of the
Royal British legion made an award
of a certificate of appreciation to
one of our own and well-known
West Kent masons for his support of
the appeal over many years.
In
recognition
of
the
50th
anniversary of our Province, the
West
Kent
Provincial
Grand
Stewards9
Lodge
held
an
outstanding Garden Party at Oakley
House on Sunday 10th September.
A sell out event, with 250 tickets
being sold, and perfect weather,
many Brethren, family and friends
turned up in the course of the
afternoon and enjoyed each other9s
company.
During David9s working life, he
worked in communications at the
Defence
Medical
Rehabilitation
Centre and a number of military
bases. He saw many of our brave
members of the armed forces with
various injuries and felt he ought to
do something to contribute to the
wellbeing of those suffering. Over
the years, he has raised many
thousands of pounds for this worthy
cause.
Leigh, aged 39, has been very much
inspired by his Dad to participate,
who at 70 years young puts us all to
much shame with his energy. David
is no doubt a huge inspiration to
many of us and a few years ago,
was honoured with the Invicta
Award for his community services.
Trevor Jones has been involved for
many years with ensuring that all of
the centre9s have poppies for sale,
and collection boxes, and always
supplies the poppy wreaths that the
executive and lodges lay at the
various war memorials within the
Province.
His many years of service are well
recognised, well-done Trevor.
The
singers
who
entertained
throughout
the
day
were
outstanding. The barbeque was
excellent
and
kids
thoroughly
enjoyed themselves on the bouncy
castles.
Let9s hope this winning formula can
be repeated in the future.
