Aim
Provide education and skills to primary care professionals to navigate evolving clinical practice.
Evidence-based research has shown that the adoption and implementation of trauma-informed and
inclusive care models improve global health inequity.
Content
This skills-building session aligns with the World Health Organization’s A conceptual framework for
action on the social determinants of health. By systematically eliminating barriers to health inequities
through the application of trauma-informed and inclusive care models, this session aims to equip
primary healthcare professionals with the tools needed to enact transformational change.
Evidence shows minority stress is one of the main indicators for poor health outcomes in priority
populations globally. Empathy-building exercises allow participants self-reflection and development
around their own experiences. In turn, this builds a connection between participants’ stories and
the lived experiences of priority population groups who are subjected to unconscious bias when
accessing healthcare.
Comparisons can be drawn between best-practice trauma-informed and inclusive care models
and participants’ existing primary health frameworks. When health inequities are identified, use of
continuous quality improvement strategies can be applied to create better health outcomes for global
priority population groups.
Each person has a direct role and responsibility in the betterment of health outcomes for all individuals.
By coming together to investigate and understand the benefits of trauma-informed care and inclusive
practices, we can support the healthcare needs of all our clients, thereby ensuring their human rights
to healthcare globally.
Goals
1. Learn the foundations of best-practice trauma-informed and inclusive care models in primary
healthcare
2.
Identify and reflect on your domestic priority population groups and the negative impacts they
experience in accessing primary healthcare
3.
Apply learned strategies to improve priority population health outcomes and global health equity
