Interview on
Music &
Missions
with Hannah Buckner Shoop
"If we don't love them well in our
own nation and our own backyard,
we won't love them well across the
ocean either." -Hannah Buckner
How did you meet the Kuenzli's?
We were living in Starkville, Mississippi and I
went to this worship night where college
students gathered in this random spot on
campus that was an outdoor/indoor two
story dome that echoed voices and
harmonies from all different churches and
denominations that was affectionately
known as, "The Spot," It was word of
mouth and you'd randomly get a text with a
time. The night I showed up, Caleb &
Bethany were leading with Davy Flowers
and they didn't seem they were from
Starkville because of the way they
worshipped. They were being super
charismatic in a setting that is typically
pretty reserved. I was like, "Who are these
people? A couple of weeks later, they
visited our church and the rest was history.
Your job title is newly termed,
"Musicianary." How would you
define that and did you ever see
yourself being that one day?
I never put the words together like that as a
kid but I always loved music and grew to
love missions, realizing that's what life is
about and what I want to give my life to. It
wasn't until I got around Lindy Conant and
Circuit Riders who were these crazy gifted
musicians using that as a platform for the
gospel in America, that I realized that term
is the heart's cry of the things I loved most.
The early church is married to poverty,
prisons, and persecutions, but today the
church is married to prosperity,
personality, and popularity.
