SONG STORY
Years ago we were sitting with our friends Mark & Barbara
Horstemeyer and got onto the subject of, “blood being
thicker than water.” She told me that the origins of that old
saying didn’t actually mean that the origins of family blood
wasn’t thicker than the water of friendship but that the
blood of Christ is thicker than the water of the womb. We
began discussing what it meant for kingdom family to be
thicker than just your family of origin. Needless to say, this
sent me for a loop as I scoured the internet for proof of this
concept. It actually started driving me crazy because I
couldn’t find it but somewhere deep inside me I knew it to
be true that blood is thicker than water. Our family and
ministry are firm believers in kingdom family playing a vital
role in friendship, discipleship, and community. So this
season stuck with me for a while. At church one Sunday, I
was asked to preach about kingdom family and I really
wanted to get this concept across that the blood of Christ is
thicker than the womb. Mark 3: 31-35 says, “…” This story
with Jesus confirms that those who are of the kingdom
really are as important as the family you were born into.
Kingdom family even has the opportunity to be closer
because of joined vision, heart and spiritual unity. This song
was written from a place of erasing generational lines,
denominational lines, political lines to step into God’s
kingdom which is so much greater than anything we can
compare it to. My Dad’s a Dentist so growing up, I felt like I
always knew about teeth but in actuality I’ve only ever
shared what I heard my Dad say. I never went to Dental
school but my Dad has so when I have a dental question I
go to him and ironically, when push comes to shove and my
friends have a dental issue, they come to me because I’m
related to a Dentist. Now as a son of the Kingdom, my
Father is the expert on all things and whenever I have an
issue, I get the chance to go to Him. People might come to
me for the pain they're going through because of who I’m
connected to. Most of the time I try to connect them back to
the Father but there are a number of times where the
Father connects me to them. Because of who’s I am, I get
speak His heart into their hearts so whether it’s healing or a
word of knowledge, prophesy or miracles, we get to go after
everything that’s in God’s heart. The bridge takes us back
to that place of finding everything we want in Him because
blood is thicker than water.
