RECRUITMENT & SENIOR LEADER
PERFORMANCE COMMITTEE

The purpose of the Committee
is to assist the Board with its
responsibilities by:
with our Senior Leaders, our focus
this year has been on Board renewal
and Senior Leaders’ appraisals.
• Coordinating any recruitment
requirements for ministry leaders
who report to the Board (Senior
Leaders).
• Facilitating the regular and
structured review of the
performance of Senior Leaders.
• Leading ongoing Board renewal,
including succession of Officers of
the Board.
The maximum number of Board
members is 10, and for much of the
year, we have had 9 Board members.
Nevertheless, Board renewal is a
consistent focus because our Board
members are appointed for terms of
three years and can only serve two
consecutive terms (six years total).
This is intended to bring fresh ideas,
skills and perspectives to the Board.
The Committee includes the Chair
(Mal Cooke), Deputy Chair (Michael
Pailthorpe), Two other board
members (Asha Bowen and Dave
Hack), and is supported by the
Executive Minister (Tania Watson).

At the next AGM in June 2024, Mal
Cooke, Deane Gilmour and Michael
Pailthorpe will reach their term
limits and come off the Board. This
has led to an ongoing focus on
identifying candidates for the Board
who can continue to strengthen
our governance. The Committee
has made recommendations to the
Board on the renewal process, which
ensures that our Senior Leaders are
able to provide their input. We expect
to appoint new Board members,
including a new Chair and Deputy
Chair, at our next AGM.
The aims of our performance review
process are to encourage reflection,
and to plan together for the year
ahead. The Committee members offer
a supportive and reflective relational
opportunity to supplement the Senior
Leaders’ self-evaluations. Those
conversations happen throughout the
year and more structured discussions
are scheduled twice each year.
