Interview
with John Reese
1.
Please tell us about your background.
I’ve spent over three decades immersed in the
music industry, working as a manager, large scale
event producer, and festival promoter selling over
75 million tickets and over 150 Million albums with
artists I have represented and events that I have
curated and produced. I managed many multi
platinum global artists which gave me a front-row
seat to the challenges artists face. I later transitioned
to producing and founding large-scale festivals and
events, which allowed me to merge my passion
for music with my love for building experiences.
From launching over 50 festivals including Mayhem,
Oddball Comedy Festival and Taste of Chaos. I’ve
always focused on creating platforms where music
can connect with people in meaningful, emotional
ways.
2.
How do you stay motivated?
What keeps me motivated is the thrill of putting
together experiences that resonate with both
fans and artists. There’s nothing quite like seeing
thousands of people connect through live music—
it’s an energy that’s contagious. I also stay driven
by working with passionate artists and crews. Their
creativity pushes me to stay sharp and innovate in
my own way, whether I’m managing an entire festival
or helping an artist strategize their next move.
3.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve
learned in your career so far?
One of the biggest lessons is the importance of
resilience. The music industry is unpredictable—
events get canceled, trends shift, and challenges
arise out of nowhere. I’ve learned that you can’t take
anything personally. It’s essential to stay focused,
adapt quickly, and never lose sight of your longterm vision. Relationships are also key; you have to
nurture them with authenticity and integrity if you
want to sustain a career in this business.
like Robert Smith, Ozzy and Kendrick Lamar come to
mind—not just for their talent, but for their relentless
work ethic and ability to adapt to changing times.
They’re proof that passion and perseverance go a
long way in this industry.
5.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently focused on developing artists
on long-term career strategies in a new company
called DAMN! — Disrupt Artist Management Network
with my partner, Craig Duswalt. We are currently
working with two up-and-coming bands, Thredge
and Chained Saint. The live event space is evolving
rapidly, and I’m currently exploring innovative
ways to engage fans. I’m also working on building
partnerships that align music with other industries,
bringing fresh experiences to audiences.
4.
Are there any musicians that inspire you?
I’ve always been inspired by artists who push
boundaries, both musically and personally. People
