The River Thames
Cleaner than it was 50
years ago, but
unfortunately its 昀氀ow
contains some of the
highest recorded levels
of micro-plascs of any
river in the world — including the industrial
giants alongside the Rhine. University of London sciensts
esmate that in places 94,000 microplascs move through the
water per second.
Then there is the sewage problem, millions of tonnes of
untreated sewage is dumped by water companies each year
along the Thames, some of it with government blessing,
some of it not! On one occasion in 2020, more than 2 billion
litres of raw sewage was dumped in the Thames in just two
days.
The Thames is just one river of many in the UK with massive
problems, klling our waterways
