For one thing, its flow
contains some of the
highest recorded levels
of microplas�cs of any
river in the world —
including industrial
giants alongside the
Rhine. University of
London scien�sts
es�mate that in places 94,000 microplas�cs move through the
water per second.
Then there is the sewage problem, millions of tonnes of
untreated sewage is dumped by water companies each year
along the Thames, some of it with government blessing, some of
it not! On one occasion in 2020, more than 2 billion litres of
raw sewage was dumped in the Thames in just two days.
Each Club will organise their Clean-Up in their area, seeking the
help and involvement of Rotaractors, Interactors, Sea Cadets,
Scouts, Local Womble Li�er pickers and other Green Groups.
Together we can make a difference and get some posi�ve
publicity to promote more responsible waste management .
