RP - manifesto A4 FINAL - Flipbook - Page 10
Rory with Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper MP;
Rory will get Leicestershire and Rutland’s voice heard on the national stage.
In 2009, Leicestershire Police had 2344 police o昀케cers and 1253 police sta昀昀, that
compares to 2242 o昀케cers and 1202 police sta昀昀 today. In 2009, that meant locally 1
o昀케cer per 430 residents, that 昀椀gure now stands at 1 o昀케cer per almost 500 residents.
This means our police o昀케cers and sta昀昀 have more
to do and they are spread too thinly across our
communities.
Due to the unacceptably low funding settlement
Leicestershire Police gets from the Government,
almost 200 further police jobs are at risk in the
coming year - placing yet more pressure on our local
police service.
Special Constables have a vital role to play and I
respect and thank those who volunteer their time
as Specials and in other police volunteering roles
to help improve community safety. These voluntary
roles make an important di昀昀erence and support
e昀昀ective neighbourhood policing.
Nationally, I will be relentless in making the case to
ensure our police force is fairly funded and that we
always receive our fair share of national funding pots
for new police o昀케cers.
A Labour Government will deliver 13,000 new
frontline police o昀케cers and PCSOs.
I will ensure we get our fair share of this boost to
police numbers.
I will work with and ask the Chief Constable to
ensure the strongest vetting and standards through
police recruitment. I support national, mandatory
and strengthened standards for vetting, training and
police misconduct.
As Police & Crime Commissioner, I will review the
budget, midterm 昀椀nancial strategy and strategic
plans for the year ahead. I want to ensure every
possible avenue is explored within the challenging
昀椀nancial situation to maximise the delivery of
strengthened neighbourhood policing with properlyresourced local teams.
