INVESTMENT IN RURAL
POLICING TO PROTECT
FARMING AND COUNTRYSIDE
COMMUNITIES
I have always championed Leicestershire and Rutland’s farming and countryside
communities. Our farming and agricultural businesses are a vital part of the
economy, stewards of our wonderful countryside and a rich part of our area’s
heritage and culture.
People living in Leicestershire and Rutland’s villages
and market towns tell me they sometimes feel
overlooked and forgotten about. That will not be
the case under my leadership. My commitment to
strengthened neighbourhood policing will reach
across every part of the policing area: every market
town, parish, village and hamlet.
Anti-social behaviour should not be seen just as
an issue a昀昀ecting urban areas and town centres. It
a昀昀ects villages and rural communities too. It should
always be taken seriously. I will work with partners,
including local authorities, parish councils, youth
service providers and others to bring forward a new,
speci昀椀c strategy and action plan to tackle anti-social
behaviour in rural and countryside communities.
Where there are speci昀椀c crimes and safety
concerns a昀昀ecting farms, agricultural businesses
and countryside communities there will be a
dedicated and properly-resourced response. I will
continue to fund and seek to extend the Rural
Policing Team: the team’s knowledge, expertise
and relationships with farming and countryside
communities is crucial in tackling and preventing
rural crime. There will be a strengthened response
to crimes like agricultural equipment and vehicle
theft; livestock theft and 昀氀y-tipping. I will work
with partners to ensure high pro昀椀le and visible
campaigns and to deter livestock worrying.
