I have long-supported the White Ribbon UK campaign
which seeks to engage men and boys in e昀昀orts to end
male violence against women and girls. I have taken
the White Ribbon promise and will always speak up for
the change needed to ensure our communities and
society are safe for women and girls, and to tackle and
end gender based violence.
This requires action and not just words. As Police &
Crime Commissioner, I will ensure the budget and
funding for services working to prevent and tackle
violence against women and girls, and for services
working with those a昀昀ected by domestic abuse will
be protected and increased year on year throughout
my term of o昀케ce.
I will also take every available opportunity to leverage
in further national funding to support this vital
work. I know from speaking with local organisations
working in this 昀椀eld, that we have some excellent
and impactful service delivery and practice: I will
ring-fence speci昀椀c funding to encourage innovation
in this area: we must learn from what works and
support local, specialist organisations in this sector.
Drawing on best practice, under my leadership
we will strengthen work in schools, colleges and
universities to tackle and end misogyny and violence
against women and girls, with speci昀椀c toolkits and
resources for teachers and professionals. Employers
have a key role to play too, and I will bring employers
and trade unions together to develop work-based
programmes too, and to support people a昀昀ected by
domestic abuse and violence.
More needs to be done in this area to tackle harmful
content online. The Online Safety Act is a start,
but we need to ensure social media platforms are
accountable. I will push for stronger measures to
tackle online misogyny, online hate and harmful
content. As a Member of the European Parliament,
I repeatedly pushed the European Commission and
national governments to do more at a global level
to tackle online hate, including sexism, misogyny
and gender-based violence. As Police & Crime
Commissioner, I will use my platform and voice to
push the Government to do more to ensure digital
platforms are doing all they can to prevent violence
against women and girls.
If I am elected, I will commence and lead work to
secure White Ribbon UK accreditation for the O昀케ce of
Police & Crime Commissioner and Leicestershire Police
as a whole, reinforcing my commitment to tackling
mens violence against women and girls and providing
external benchmarking of work in this area.
