REDUCING THE COSTS OF THE POLICE
COMMISSIONER ROLE TO INVEST IN
THE FRONTLINE
When frontline policing budgets are under severe strain, it is unacceptable that
the costs of the Police Commissioner’s own o昀케ce are increasing.
There is a £5.4 million gap in Leicestershire Police’s
budget for the year ahead, with almost 200 police
sta昀昀 jobs at risk. In recent years we have seen at
least £300,000 of taxpayer money squandered by
the Conservative Police & Crime Commissioner
on expensive pay o昀昀s for senior managers and in
settlements with the Ethics Panel he dismissed.
The merry go round of Chief Executives in the
O昀케ce of Police & Crime Commissioner has created
unhelpful turbulence and instability throughout a
challenging time for Leicestershire Police and our
communities.
The OPCC needs new, serious leadership with
stability to ensure the focus is on the strategic
challenges facing our communities and the police
force: where it should be.
I will protect budgets used to commission vital
services preventing crime and supporting victims
and witnesses.
I will reduce the costs of the Police Commissioner
role to invest more in frontline work to make our
streets safer.
RORY PALMER
I will reduce costs spent on external advisors
and consultants in the O昀케ce of Police & Crime
Commissioner.
I will reduce the costs associated with the role of
Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner.
This money will be immediately reinvested in
new programmes to prevent crime and
anti-social behaviour.
I have always believed that public money through
procurement and the purchasing of supplies and
services should support local businesses. I have
consistently taken decisions in elected o昀케ce,
including when I was a Member of the European
Parliament, to do this. My election campaign
for this role is supporting local printers here in
Leicestershire. As Police & Crime Commissioner,
I will ensure a ‘local 昀椀rst’ approach when it comes
to the purchasing of supplies for the OPCC - I will
increase the amount of public money through
the OPCC spent with local businesses, whilst
always ensuring value for tax payers. I will also
work to ensure this approach is adopted across
Leicestershire Police as a whole.
