RORY PALMER
Relevant, practical leadership experience and a track record of speaking
up to serve local communities in elected o昀케ce for over 13 years
REAL EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE:
Member of the European Parliament 2017-2020:
representing Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
at European level and internationally. A strong voice
for constituents on a wide range of issues ranging
from cross-border crime to employment rights, from
climate change to public health. Rory secured high
level discussions in Brussels on the local policing
implications of Brexit, ensuring our area’s voice was
heard on crucial questions.
Deputy City Mayor of Leicester 2011-2017: a senior
and experienced leader, helping to lead Leicester
through challenging times. Working in partnership
and holding public sector partners (including the
police and NHS) to account; chairing the city’s Health
& Wellbeing Board and leading large and complex
service areas like adult social care, public health,
transport, skills and energy.
RORY PALMER
Councillor, 2007-2017: ten years experience as a
locally elected councillor, working directly with local
communities to deliver practical change, secure
investment and helping hundreds of residents with
individual casework. As a councillor, Rory worked
closely with the local police to deliver projects
tackling anti-social behaviour and improving
community safety.
Rory has also served as a charity trustee, a sixth form
college governor, a board member of a local youth
work project, a non-executive director of a leading local
social enterprise, a company director and an advisor
to local community projects. He currently works for a
national charity working to end UK poverty.
