GETTING OUR
FAIR SHARE
Leicestershire Police is woefully under funded by the Government.
Our police force gets one of the least generous funding settlements in the country.
For the year ahead, 36 of 41 other police forces
will get a more generous funding settlement than
Leicestershire. This includes neighbouring forces
facing the same policing and crime challenges across
similar geographic areas - with large urban areas and
rural communities.
I have worked cross-party to secure investment
and funding for area. I know how Whitehall and
Westminster works. I know how Government
decision-making works and how to navigate the
national corridors of power to bene昀椀t Leicester,
Leicestershire and Rutland.
This unfairness cannot go on. It means all of us here
in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are paying
more tax, nationally and locally through Council Tax,
and getting less for it. We have been short changed
for too long and I am not prepared to accept this.
Securing fairer funding for our police force will be a
priority for me from day one. I have the experience
to hit the ground running.
I won’t stand by and just accept this under-funding of
our police force.
Since the Conservative Police & Crime Commissioner
was elected there has been three Conservative Prime
Ministers, 昀椀ve Home Secretaries and four Policing
Ministers. This chaos is not serving Leicestershire
and Rutland, or our country, well.
The Conservative Police & Crime Commissioner
has repeatedly failed to in昀氀uence successive
Conservative Prime Ministers, Home Secretaries or
Policing Ministers on the case for fairer funding of
Leicestershire Police.
I am not prepared to stand by and accept this
unfair funding. It is not good enough for residents
and taxpayers, it is not good enough for our hard
working police o昀케cers and sta昀昀: I will get our voice
heard on the national stage and secure the fairer
funding we need and deserve.
And to show I am serious about this, I make this
straightforward promise, reinforcing how central
this commitment to get our area the fairer
funding we deserve is to me:
If I am elected Police & Crime Commissioner and
if I fail to get the Government to change police
funding in Leicestershire and Rutland’s favour, I
will not stand for re-election in four years time.
No ifs, no buts.
Whilst the Conservative Police & Crime
Commissioner has failed to secure fairer funding
for our police force, I have a track record of getting
Leicestershire and Rutland’s voice heard on the
national stage.
