Chance Multi-Range Voltage Detectors (MRVD)
Confirm that a line is de-energized prior to performing maintenance on it. Actually a field intensity
meter, the MRVD is calibrated to read approximate line-to-line voltage when connected to any phase
conductor. It responds to the magnitude of the field gradient between its end probe and floating
electrode (at the universal hotstick-attachment fitting). If the universal fitting is close to a ground,
another phase or another voltage source, the reading should tend to be high; if it's close to a jumper
or equipment of the same phase, the reading should be low. The MRVD gives metered readout capable
of distinguishing actual line voltage from static or feedover from an adjacent line. Readings from an
Detects 0-40kV line to ground (0-69kV Phase to Phase). Proximity or direct contact on overhead and underground systems. Easy to
read analog scale. Detect voltage from the ground on bare overhead lines when hand held. Test secondary voltage on bare or insulated
cables. Test capacitive test points. Detector indicates line to ground values for nominal or induced voltages. 5 - position selector switch is
calibrated for height above ground to compensate for a capacitive coupling effect. Shielded to minimize stray field interference. Detector
includes overload protection up to 500kV. Internal backlight available for night use. 15kV/25kV/35kV bushing adapters are available for
underground use up to 35kV. Water resistant. Each kit contains a straight probe, hook probe, instruction manual, padded carrying case.
