460 ¹8 RW57b 1990 BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK,
ERROR, BACK INSCRIPTION PRINTED ON THE
STAMP PAPER RATHER THAN THE GUM, SUPERB
98, RARE, especially in this “lofty” grade of 98! It is listed
in Scott & catalogued, but not priced. Some philatelic
researchers have questioned the existence of No. RW57b
as a genuine error. There appears to be evidence that
the inscriptions printed on the gum on the back can leach
through to the paper on one of the types of gums used
on these stamps. Further research is ongoing. The
clarity of the lettering makes us think this is a misguided
theory. Before being delisted, the Scott Catalogue value
of the error was approximately $3,500, 2010 PSE graded
certificate, SMQ ($3500) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . WPH $2500
