Education for a changing world
Care, Guidance
and Support
Successful learning thrives when students feel safe, confident,
respected, and valued.
No matter what age a child joins Samuel Ryder, they will receive the support and
care required to help them achieve standards of which they and the rest of the SRA
community can be proud of. Our pastoral and academic systems work together to
ensure that they receive an education as personalised to their talents and needs as
possible.
All students become a member of a form group comprised of students of the same
age. In secondary phase, subjects are taught in mixed groups throughout the
curriculum. In older year groups, the students are taught in mixed form groups.
However, the relationship between the tutor and their students in the form group
remains an integral one. The tutors are also a key link between home and school.
From the moment a child joins Samuel Ryder, the form tutor maintains an overview
of the child’s progress, both academic and personal.
Buntingford First School

The role of the Form Tutor is supported by a number of other staff in the school. This
includes the Head of Year, Student Support Managers, members of the inclusion
faculty and senior staff. The expertise and experience of other professionals such as
the attendance officer, school nurse, careers advisor, school counsellor and other
advisory teams, are available and can be accessed should the child need this kind of
specialist support.
Careers guidance runs throughout the school years, with individual advice and
guidance at key transition points, work experience in Years 10 and 12 and careers
fairs in Years 11, 12 and 13 to give just a few examples. Each year our students
progress to courses at the best universities and employment with most prestigious
companies. The school also has a close relationship with Deloitte and Tesco, which
provides Sixth Form students with excellent mentoring and work experience
opportunities.
