As an all-through school, providing education from 4-19 on the same
site, the Samuel Ryder Academy is uniquely placed to ensure the best
possible progression for its students as they move through each Key
Stage. At the heart of delivering opportunities for growth to students is
the quality of teaching and learning. Our aim is to ensure all learners
reach and ideally surpass their targets to achieve beyond their
expectations. By sharing outstanding practice across all the key
stages, we can support any learning challenge associated with
transition. Our curriculum is centred around our school values and sets
the highest aspirations for every child.

classroom. Teachers use a range of adaptive and innovative approaches. Digital
technologies are well embedded into all subjects across the curriculum. Lessons are
accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND, who teachers effectively plan to
support. Lessons include extensive opportunities for reading and oracy, which we
recognise as vital to our pupils9 progress in every sense and are characterised by a
strong climate for learning.
The overriding objective at Samuel Ryder Academy is to enable everyone, whatever
their ability levels, to develop to his or her maximum potential. To do this we have a
stimulating and challenging curriculum, and we carefully monitor each pupil9s
academic progress.
We believe that effective learning is no accident. Our attitude and approach affect
the extent of our learning, and so we have tried to summarise the principal factors
that influence it. These are our SCHOLAR drivers. There is a consistent focus in the
academy on the attitudes and dispositions required to be a successful learner. These
drive teaching and learning in the school and are the 8golden thread9 that links
together all elements of our curriculum. In addition, by deliberately practising and
improving in these areas, a student becomes ever more confident in their ability to
take on each challenge that learning brings and in contributing to the wider
community and world around them.
We believe that every child can develop a life-long passion for learning. Our
curriculum is designed by passionate and enthusiastic professionals. Through this,
we aim to provide a curriculum that is engaging, balanced and rigorous. In Key Stage
3 all students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Modern Foreign
Languages, Arts, Technology, PE, Computer Science and PSHE. Curriculum options
are available in Years 8 and 9 to allow increased flexibility and choice. In Key Stage 4
all students follow a core offer although there is considerable scope for
personalisation and alternative curriculum pathways. In the Sixth Form, students can
select from a wide range of A-level subjects and BTEC course options. Our
curriculum encourages student curiosity and creativity.
Ambitious standards in achievement can only come about through a relentless focus
on excellent standards of teaching and learning and this is a core focus in the
Academy. We have a highly trained, well-motivated, dedicated staff of teachers to
ensure that students of all ages are stretched, challenged, and supported in the
