Cooking with cast iron - usually out in the elements and most often over an
open flame - is how many of our ancestors prepared their meals. Being as hardy
and durable as it is, many cast-iron cooking vessels have been passed down from
generation to generation, lasting more than a lifetime. They carry countless
memories: sitting around a campfire at your favorite summer camp, watching
grandma prepare your favorite pasta sauce, or helping those in need by ladling
them a warm cup of soup. The beloved cast iron symbolizes connection with our
community and a respect for tradition through the generations.
Much loved by both professional and home cooks, cast iron holds incredible heat
while providing delicious char and caramelization notes. What’s more, it also
absorbs flavors from the previous meals it has prepared. The char it delivers creates
deep, rich flavors with subtle metallic notes, thanks to generations of use. It’s fair to
say that cooking with cast iron doesn’t just satisfy our stomachs and our taste buds,
it also nourishes our soul.
