FALLS PHOENIX
On February 18, the list of seven potential mascots was narrowed down to four, Phoenix, Ravens,
Titans and Falcons. Students created and shared literature describing the four potential mascots
with students district-wide. In March students in grades 6-11 voted and chose Phoenix as the
new mascot. The new nickname went into effect at the beginning of this school year.
Beginning in March, the student committee, led by Booher, worked with the high school
administration to secure designs for the new Phoenix mascot logo. Designs were submitted by
Davis Corazzari, MFHS 2020 graduate, students in the MFHS Business Academy, and Ethan
Swanson, a sports marketing student at Concordia University whose father was a 1985 MFHS
graduate. Six designs were submitted and reviewed by the high school and three designs were
chosen for the final student vote.
On November 16, students in grades 8-12 voted online and chose the new design for the
Phoenix, which was created by Swanson. The new design received 54.6 percent of the vote. There
was no cost to the district for Swanson’s design work for the logo.
The new design will be used in conjunction with the traditional feathered F to identify MFHS as
the Phoenix. Using a mascot logo is consistent with how most area school districts use their
mascot logos. The Sussex/Hamilton Chargers use an H logo along with a mascot logo of a knight
with a shield. Also, Brookfield Central High School, the Lancers, uses a BC logo aligned with
images of a knight, shield and staff.
