ENGLISH 10-HEALTHCARE ACADEMY
One-Year Course

Course Number: EN197
This honors English course is designed for students wish to
pursue a career in the medical field while making progress
toward the College Readiness Standards. The critical reading
to acquire information and the interpretation of fiction and
nonfiction literature is geared toward discussion and analysis
of how humans pursue knowledge and show compassion, and
also toward the potential ethical conflicts that arise within the
medical field. This course exposes sophomores to the same
skills and texts as the non-Academy English 10 course; in
addition, Healthcare Academy English 10 is anchored by the
novel, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, the story behind
the discovery of the hela cell, a must-read for any student
pursing a healthcare career. This course is also offered at the
honors English 10 level.
All students who have been formally accepted into the
Healthcare Academy should register for the regular level of
