Roller Coaster
Physics Challenge
Eighth-grade Science
students showed
their knowledge of
Newton’s Laws of
Motion, Kinetic and
Potential Energy,
Energy Conversion
and Simple Machines
by creating their own roller coasters. They held a showcase for
sixth and seventh grades to see their designs and vote for their
favorite. This was a fun and educational way to wrap up the
Physics unit and show their knowledge.
After-School Activities
After-school clubs continued throughout the spring, with
students participating in activities that allowed them to explore
interests and connect with classmates. On April 27, students
in Band and Drumline performed a spring concert for parents
and their middle school peers. Shelton Singers Middle School
Honor Choir performed classic rock ’n’ roll at its spring concert
on April 28.
Sixth-Grade Awards Assembly
Congratulations to the 112 sixth graders
who received awards at the Middle
School Sixth-Grade Awards Assembly
on May 16. DeShawn McClelland
was the sixth-grade Shelton Parents’
Association award winner.
Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Awards Assembly
Congratulations to the seventh- and eighth-grade students
who received awards at the Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Awards
Assembly on May 17. Some of the winners included:
• The Meredith Lyon Heart of a Lyon Award: Chloe Swan and
Luke Denton
• The Nick Mentesana Heart of a Giant Award: Devyn Norton
and Miles Schendle
Eighth-Grade Vocal/Musical Theatre Class Performance
The eighth-grade Vocal/Musical Theatre class performed scenes
from “Little Women: The Musical.” Student performers included:
• Sasha Fairman as Meg March
• Reese Olsen as Jo March
• Andie Yung as Beth March
• Miller Pailet as Amy March and Theodore “Laurie” Lawrence III
• Special guest appearance by Mary Claire Melton as Marmee
Seventh-Grade Drama
Class Performance
The seventh-grade Drama class
performed “School of Nerds.”
Robotics Team
Sixth-eighth graders joined the
Middle School LEGO Robotics
Team and participated in the
First LEGO League Challenge.
Students identified and
researched a problem, then
designed and created an Innovation Project solution. They then
coded a robot to complete their missions.
The Middle School Cake Walk
Raised Money for Puddin’ Pop
The Middle School Student Council sponsored
a cake walk that raised $3,789 for Puddin’
Pop, an organization that supports children in
foster care by providing new arrivals with care
packages. Third- through eighth-grade students
participated in the cake walk.
Interactive Asian Cultural Garden
• The Kierstin Eaddy Memorial
Scholarship Award: Ava Wolf
Sixth-grade Geography classes
researched various topics related to
Asian culture. Students culminated
their studies by showcasing what
they learned with an “Interactive
Asian Cultural Garden.”
• The 2023 Adele Wolf recipients:
eighth graders Phoebe Rupp and
Baron Pogir
Middle School Athletics
Middle School Athletics includes
cheerleading, volleyball, football, cross
country, basketball, tennis, track and
field, golf and baseball. Students also
completed their first sixth-grade flag
football season. The Middle School
baseball team won its first TAPS
Baseball Championship!
