UPPER SCHOOL NEWS
Jenny Cheatham, Head of Upper School
Senior Events
Here are some of the special events and traditions celebrating seniors:
Senior Hero
Seniors choose a hero who is a mentor or has had an impact on their life.
Seniors then write a description of the hero and why that person is a hero. At
the ceremony, seniors read their description of their hero.
Homecoming Week Dress-Out Days
Students dress up according to a chosen theme for
the day. A favorite is Dress Like a Teacher Day.
Senior Rally Days
These are special days when seniors gather during
advisory and lunch to enjoy games, compete with
other advisories and eat.
Adopt-a-Senior Program
The Adopt-a-Senior Program is an amazing
opportunity for our seniors to interact with
our younger students in Lower School and
Middle School, helping to build the Shelton
community and encourage senior leadership
within the school. Lower School and Middle
School advisories adopt a senior for the
school year. The seniors then meet with their
adopted advisory several times throughout
the school year and participate or lead
activities with the advisory.
National Honor Society
Since 2012, Upper School has had a chapter
of the National Honor Society (NHS), a
nationwide organization that recognizes
students of high academic achievement,
good character and strong leadership skills.
NHS students volunteer, within the school
and local community, to provide assistance
and leadership by collecting items for food
and sock drives and assisting with events
at Shelton. Students offer assistance during
midterm and exam mornings to provide tutoring for fellow students to
help them prepare for exams, which helps strengthen their academic and
leadership skills. National Honor Society officers for 2022-2023 included:
• President John Bulmer
• Vice President Lily Attmore
• Secretary/Parliamentarian Ella Houstoun
• Historian Callie Wakefield
• VP Membership Hunter Padgett
• Faculty Advisor Dr. Samantha Franklin
Student Council
Members of the Upper School Student Council partnered with the Shelton
Spirit Organization to plan pep rallies. Student Council members also
hosted the Homecoming Dance and a Halloween party for the fifth graders.
Members of the Upper School Student Council included Tyler Primeaux,
Ethan Proctor, Callie Wakefield, Kylie Gingold, Ella Trevino, Cade Bergus,
Dylan Tompkins and Advisor Blythe Mundlin.

at the April 12 Seniors & Parents Lunch Celebration.
He advised seniors to be mentally tough in the face
of adversity, not
worry about the
past and make
a difference.
“Shelton has
a spirit that’s
palpable,” he said.
“Carry it into
the world.” Thanks
to Mr. Garrett!
