FINE ARTS FEATURES
Anné Hughes, Director of Fine Arts
There is no doubt that involvement in Fine Arts promotes
creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and self-expression
from Early Childhood through Upper School. But just as
importantly, engaging in the arts helps a student begin
to understand the human condition in social, emotional
and cognitive ways. These skills then translate into the
academic realm, endowing Shelton students with greater
confidence and perseverance in the classroom. Building
resilience while fostering empathy for others serves not
only the student, but our school
and greater community. It is a
privilege and delight to work
with our staff and students in this
collaborative environment. Shelton
Fine Arts continues to flourish in
the expansive Moody Fine Arts
Center. Here are some highlights.
Upper School Theatre presented the
fall play, “Twelfth Night” by William
Shakespeare, Oct. 12-13 and 15-16,
2022, to near sell-out audiences.
Sixty-three students participated in
the cast and crew. In addition, more
than 72 students were in the cast
and crew of “Sound of Music” on
Feb. 16-18 and Feb. 19.
The Gampper Art Gallery, located in the lobby of
the Center, featured rotating works by Shelton
art students of all grade levels. Gallery highlights
included “Night of the Arts” in May, which featured
2D and 3D art and photography created by Upper
School students. Artwork by Lower School students
was displayed during the Lower School Spectacular
in April while the third- and fourth-grade art
showcase was held in mid-May, representing more
than 30 works of art. Each of the gallery events
included student tours of the artwork as well as a
reception of light hors d’oeuvres.
