Therapy Seminars
Diagnosing Learning-Different Children (EDUC 5344) Referral and Testing
Participants must have a bachelor’s degree. Completion of this course is part of the
degree and licensure/certification plan, but does not qualify the participant to
diagnose without further training.
There are many reasons why a student might struggle in school. An
evaluation is often helpful to determine if learning, attention, language,
emotional, and/or social difficulties are impacting school performance. This
course will provide an overview of the diagnostic criteria for a Language
Disorder, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Participants will be taught the general guidelines for administering the tests
used to evaluate these difficulties, practice interpreting testing reports, and
learn what interventions are most appropriate for each disorder. Case
studies will be presented and reviewed.
Screening for Dyslexia
Completion of this course is NOT part of the degree and licensure/certification
plan. It is a separate course offered by Dr. Laure Ames.
Designed for professionals who are working to identify dyslexia, including
principals, SPED directors, 504 coordinators, curriculum and instruction
coordinators, literacy directors, and dyslexia therapists.
