Reading D focuses skill development on improving reading comprehension and
reading accuracy. Students learn and apply reading comprehension strategies
such as active reading, paraphrasing, summarizing, annotation (note-taking) to
various texts, including textbooks in the content areas, novels, short stories, and
short passages. Vocabulary development and morpheme development are also
stressed in this course, and students work on oral reading, fluency practice, and
decoding skills to improve reading accuracy skills.
READING 12:
COLLEGE READING AND STUDY STRATEGIES

In this course, students will learn and practice strategies for reading and
studying college-level texts. Students will explore their individual learning
styles, reading strengths, and reading challenges to help them identify effective
study strategies to meet their individual needs. Students will learn and practice
strategies for reading different college texts, including Social Studies, Math,
Arts and Humanities, Literature, and Science. Students will also learn strategies
for effective note-taking, preparing and taking exams, and summarizing and
analyzing texts. Throughout the course, students will continue to strengthen
their comprehension and fluency skills.
