solely the love that God offers. Humans cannot offer love to God except through God’s gift of
faith are we capable of agape (unconditional love) (Hunter, 1990, 666).
E. What is Empowerment?
Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary defines “empowerment” as the state of being
empowered to do something: the power, right, or authority to do something. The keyword
in this definition is authority. Jesus says, “Look, I have given you authority to crush snakes
and scorpions underfoot. I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy. Nothing
will harm you” (Luke 10:19, Common English Bible). We should be ecstatic that GOD
ordained that we, each of us, are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit, God
has anointed us, appointed us, and given us authority and power to do what we cannot do
on our own, i.e., comprehend what we as humans cannot understand and do what we are
unable to do in our own strength. The sheer joy of it all is when it comes to what we need to
do for the kingdom; He equips us to do it.
