Susana Sanroman
Susana Sanromán is a Spanish visual artist working in different
media: Photography, Video-Art, Installation, and Performance
focusing her work on the impact of consumerist societies on the
natural environment. In Susana’s environmental live sculpture/
performance The Things We Leave Behind (image below) her
artwork reflects on the human footprint on our environment.
During the performance, the artist mummifies a model with nets
and other residues from the fishing industry, all of them obtained
from a beach clean-up. The sculpture/performance highlights
the impact of waste, resulting from the continuous production of
goods in our societies.
The mummy represents the idea of the human figure, and metaphorically the global society in which we live. In this visual game,
Sanromán wants to show that everything we throw away will end
up surrounding us.
