After taking intentional time to reassess the staff structure and support of the
leadership consultant program, this year the program was transformed into the
Traveling Leadership Specialist (TLS) position. The TLS position became a combination of
the old collegiate support specialist and leadership consultant positions. Traveling staff
went from being contracted only for certain months of the year to a 1-year full-time
employment contract. Through this change, TLS were able to increase the support and
coaching they provide to our collegiate chapters across the country. With the new staff
structure, each TLS was assigned to one of the eight districts and one TLS specifically
worked with chapters on the Chapter Advancement Program (CAP). This change
provided more consistent and fluid chapter support throughout the year.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, the TLS team conducted over 168 chapter visits.
Approximately 98 out of 119 chapters received some version of a TLS visit this academic
year. Additionally, the TLS team conducted over 780 chapter president touchpoints
throughout the year and all 119 chapters received at least two chapter president
touchpoints. This year was the first year since the pandemic where visit support has
matched pre-pandemic levels.
Funding was provided by the De Jong Leadership Endowment. We are grateful to Cheri
Morrell De Jong, Epsilon Omega, and Donald, her husband, for the establishment of this
important endowment. Additionally, thanks to the myriad of Sigma Kappas who, like
Cheri, are passionate about this program and have helped this fund grow.
