Heart Clinic
At the Hallstrom Institute of Cardiology this man is going through a series
of examinations to test his heart health. In this room the assistant is using
an electrocardiogram (ECG) to sense electrical signals from his heart. The
machine’s readings are recorded on a paper strip and later the assistant will
cut up the strip to attach it to a report. Cardiovascular disease headed the list
of medical admissions to Royal Prince Alfred when the Hallstrom Institute of
Cardiology was founded in 1949. At the time it was the only centre in Australia
devoted exclusively to research into heart disease.
